Finding the best design tool

Although it is a bit hyperbolic to say there’s a tool we cannot live without, there is one that we view as an indispensable tool. Before we say what it is, explaining the context might shed some light on its truly useful qualities.

Although it’s not difficult getting acquainted with the basics of design tools such as Photoshop, it’s not as if you magically learn how to edit or create photos well in the same way that if you just passed your driving test, it does not make you a Formula One racer.

Aside from lacking familiarity with the more advanced features of such programmes, casual users are also not so invested in the bigger world of graphic design. Knowing some colour theory to understand what colours to use, what contrasts well and suits the theme of the message of the content you’re designing, and plenty more go into being good at graphic design. Moving layers around isn’t going to do it.

Canva

Canva has made all of us amateur dabblers with editing software suddenly look like professionals. That is why we love it! Although we are an advertising agency and not a design agency, when we need to quickly mock up content for adverts, Canva is a godsend!

Now, you would hire a designer or use proper design software for anything big, but for work that you need to turn around fairly quickly without it costing a lot of time and resources, this is the one.

First and foremost, it has templates and designs that were made by professionals so you don’t need to worry about whether your font, images etc look okay. It shows you the best version of something and then you just understand almost intuitively what you should do next to customise it.

The second thing we like about it is that It has almost anything you can think of! Want some designs for a dentist’s social media posts? Sure. Something for a bike shop? Of course. It has so many features that even on the free version, you can get so much out of it. And for such a powerful (but still lightweight enough to run on a mobile phone) app, the monthly cost is also quite minimal.

Of course, the best thing about it is that it’s one of the easiest apps to use. It’s quite intuitive and can produce both images and videos out of any design. All in all, this is one of the best apps that we have come across in the digital marketing space when you consider value and ease of use.

You probably already know about it as it’s quite ubiquitous but if you don’t, it’s time to check it out and see what it might do for your marketing.
